Going into my 28th week of my third pregnancy, I had done enough research to know that finding a midwife was what I needed at this point. My first two pregnancies and labors had been so smooth, I knew a midwife would be the perfect fit for the third. I contacted Katie and had our initial conversation over the phone to talk about my needs, wants and any questions I had going forward. Five minutes into the conversation I knew Katie was the fit for me. My husband is also a very curious man so, he had to have his own conversation with Katie. He needed to feel at ease with this new adventure we were going to begin. He felt immediately relieved after his phone conversation with Katie. We booked her shortly thereafter and started all of my appointments right away. Katie offers all the prenatal services but in the comfort of a one on one setting. She made us feel so comfortable from the start. She always allowed us to make our own decisions, and even provided educational resources to help us make our informed decisions. It’s not always easy making different decisions for a third child when you made completely different ones the first two children. We felt at ease with every decision we made thanks to Katie.
Once labor set in(at 12:30am) Katie gently reminded me to relax and just breathe and she would be there as soon as possible. I labored quickly and Katie arrived to save the day. We talked(in between contractions) about my progress and quickly set up the tub for baby’s arrival. She let me lead the entire thing and just quietly checked on me as needed. Just like every other beautiful labor story, I had the moment right before baby arrived that I said out loud “I can’t do this”. Katie reassured me I could and dared me to feel for baby. He was right there! Within minutes, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy Jordan. Katie seamlessly got everyone to their correct positions- me with baby, dad/husband by my side, big sister in bed with us and my mom was able to help as much as possible with baby and clean up. As they cleaned up, I was able to just stare at Jordan and enjoy these special after birth moments. Katie returned to take all the important measurements and swiftly left our home to ensure our bonding time was uninterrupted. She made her follow up visits in our home and in her office and made sure we still felt comfortable with all our decisions going forward.
Fast forward 10 months, I am now pregnant with my 4th baby and one of my first calls was to Katie! I just HAD to have her as my midwife for our final baby. I can’t speak high enough of how endearing, kind and pleasant Katie was to work with. She felt like an extension of our family during my labor and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a simple, educated and loving journey to an at-home birth.
